Collegians Women
Women’s Football at Collegians
In the middle of 2016 the VAFA announced there would be a Women’s football competition starting in 2017.
Collegians being a founding member of the men’s competition in 1892 was not going to miss being a founding member of a women’s competition and set about forming a women’s team.
A game was held against Carey in August of 2016 to get the ball rolling and the women’s program has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Nick Hibbins who had just coached our Under 19’s to a premiership in 2016 moved over to be the inaugural women’s coach in 2017.
A team took the field against one of our clubs biggest rivals in Old Xav’s in round 1 2017 at Toorak Park and we were off and running.
The women were now an official part of Collegians Football Club.
Finals in our first year where we finished second but lost both finals by less than a goal was followed up by expanding to 2 teams in 2018 and missing the finals with both teams.
Mark Hibbins took over coaching the Senior Women’s team and again the team showed signs of brilliance but fell away in the second half of the season to miss finals but the highlight of the year was a stirring win over Old Caulfield at Caulfield who were the eventual premiers in 2019.
2020 and Covid pandemic hit so we had no season but we were looking to keep the progression going and we had appointed Dom Lucarelli as the new coach of our women’s program but we enter 2021 we much excitement after a year off.
