MENS ROUND 8 RESULTS

Our men’s program had a mixed bag of results this weekend.

MENS SENIORS:

SOME WORDS FROM COACH JORDIE.

Collegians 64 defeated by Uni Blues 102.

We started reasonably well again Uni Blues in the first quarter, but weren’t able to capitalise on the scoreboard.

From that point on, the Blues were able to able to execute the fundamentals better than us, and they gained the ascendency on the scoreboard.

We stayed in the contest and kept coming, however the Blues dominated the last 15 minutes and gained a significant lead. James Stewart showed his class and versatility with a dominant last quarter.

Will Mayhood was terrific in his return to the senior side. Josh Walker and Nathan Boucher continued their good form in the midfield.

We’ll take some good lessons from the weekend, and look forward to another challenge against Brighton after the Bye.

MENS RESERVES:

Collegians 72 defeated by Uni Blues 89.

A close match right until the end, but we couldn’t get the chocolates.

Down by just 1 point at the half time break, we were unable to come out firing in the third term, being held goalless while Uni Blues piled on 2 goals.

The last quarter saw us add three goals, but our opponents kicked four to seal their win.

A really great challenge by our Reserves, and a great test against the Uni Blues, who sit third on the ladder.

Luke Smith, Alex Morgan, Edward Rice, Adam Celik, Cooper Mitchell and Will D'Amico were best.

Ben Meachem kicked 1 goal, while Alex Morgan had three majors to his name.

MENS THIRDS (Round 9):

Collegians 75 defeated by Old Xavs 141.

We held it to Old Xavs, who sit clear on top of the Thirds ladder, with a string showing in the first term.

We managed three goals and kept them to just four, but it was hard to keep the quick Xavs side at bay after the main break.

Byron Wilson, Sam Heriot, Harrison Butterss, harry stack, Jamal Mashni and Jamie Tassone were among the best.

Éanna Mulvihill kicked two in our loss. We now look ahead to our next challenge of Beaumaris after the bye.

MENS UNDER 19s (Round 9):

SOME WORDS FROM COACH RICK.

Collegians 102 defeated Mazenod 37.

The U19s were back under Friday night lights against Mazenod this week.

Mazenod came out with the clear intention to physically disrupt our style of play but to our players credit, we withstood everything they could throw at us and eventually ran away with a well deserved 65-point win.

The tone for our physicality and pressure was set early by Riley Seidler who was seen regularly bursting away from packs or cracking in to lay crunching tackles.

Another excellent performance from Lukasz Payne who continued his strong form in the forward half with 3 goals and now leads the division for goals kicked.

Jake Cotchin continued his dominance in the backline, allowing his opponent little opportunity and taking the game on whenever he had the chance.

Xavier Molino was another who stepped up this week with his best game for the season. Dangerous at ground level with an excellent roved goal and hard at it, which really set the tone for the whole group.

With 11 individual goal kickers for the 2nd week in a row, everyone is contributing when they get their chance and making us incredibly difficult to stop.

At 8-0, the U19s have given themselves the perfect platform to launch into the next few matches before the double bye.

WOMENS ROUND 8 RESULTS

One win on the board this weekend, going the way of our Women’s Thirds.

Coach Dom Lucarelli with the recap.

WOMENS SENIORS:

Collegians 97 defeated Monash Blues 12.

A good percentage boosting win for us against Monash who are unfortunately having a tough season after promotion from Premier B.

Roxy Beuzeville, Freya Taylor and Scarlett Orritt proved too strong in the middle against Monash when combined  with premier ruck Krystal Russell. Krystal is having a break out year and is (literally!) pushing new heights every game she plays with us. A big career of VFLW beckons for the young star.

After a week off last week (managed) Paris Rafferty returned in dominant form with a 4 goal haul, including one huge bomb kicked from the arc. Maddi Shaw and Eb Angelopoulos both contributed doubles, and the remainder of the 12 goals were all singles shared across the rest of the team, including a great goal from resting ruck Emily Sainty who’s work on marking during the off season is paying dividends.

Debutant Shae Murphy’s intercept marking was invaluable, cut off all but two of Monash’s effective forward entries, making it extremely hard for the away team to get within range for the entire game

Our very young senior team now prepares to measure up against last years grand finalist Kew who are having a very strong year and are stacked with talent and experience. It will be a good measure of where we are at against a really talented and fair opposition.

WOMENS RESERVES:

Collegians 50 defeated Monash Blues 15.

50 overage career games for Kayla Dingle, and another win to celebrate.

Captain Marlaina McPhillips controlled the stoppages with great ruck work, giving first use on a silver platter to our mids. Claire Peters and Laura Luci dominated and showed great courage by putting their heads over the ball again and again. The return of Emma Meggs and her characteristic ‘hard-as-nails’ attack on the ball was on show, and she is always an enjoyable one to watch.

Tottie Holyman played her best game yet and showed her skills at cleanly extracting the contested ball and taking the heat out of the ball and she delivers it into the chain. Lauren Kenneally was her usual silky self, proving again just how valuable she is as a utility that can excel at any role she is asked to play across the ground.

Up forward, it was truly a team effort, with Bella Allan kicking two, and the rest as singles to Bella Rees, Lauren Kenneally, Claire Peters, Lydia Rainey and Marlaina McPhillips.

WOMENS THIRDS:

Collegians 56 defeated Old Haileybury 22.

A win and a great way to celebrate 150 overage career games for Ash Ladson.

Up forward, Giselle Lambley was dangerous around goals, as was Annabel Schmidt, who sadly departs us for the rest of the season to travel, but will be back next year better than ever! Captain Caitlin Galt kicked a ripper to put our stamp on the win.

In the middle, Maddie Smith, Charlie Pritchard and debutant Josephine Muscatt roved well. Chelsea McDermott and Chloe Kamberis played their best games to date, providing great options on the wing. Bella Rees, Lydia Rainey and Zoe Cortizo were tireless at intercepting and rebounds all day, backed by the ever cool Jess Stolz and Zoe Gurr on the last line.

We face off against the very strong Marcellin after this weekend’s Bye, and will be working to keep it as a dour and low scoring affair.
