MENS ROUND 7 RESULTS
Our men’s program had a mixed bag of results this weekend.
MENS SENIORS:
SOME WORDS FROM COACH JORDIE.
Collegians 112 defeated Fitzroy 72.
It was great to play Fitzroy on Saturday, in what was our first Senior Men’s game in the club’s co-existence!
After having some slow starts over the last month, we were able to sharpen up in this area with a hot start that set us up well.
Fitzroy kept coming at us, and at times were able to get right on top with a strong brand of contested footy.
We fought the game out right to the end and were happy to come away with a solid victory.
Alex Lukic was very dangerous up forward with 3 goals, and also impacted in the ruck.
The ever consistent Max Pinchbeck and Jasper Davy continued their strong form.
We look forward to another big game next week V the Uni Blues at home.
MENS RESERVES:
Collegians 79 defeated Fitzroy 68.
Our Mens Reserves pulled off another gutsy win this week, overcoming Fitzroy away from home.
Celebrating Harrison Butterss’ 150th game, the boys kicked three unanswered goals in the first term, to hold a handy lead.
Fitzroy snuck back into the contest before half time, but it was a strong third term that helped keep the home side at bay.
The final term was a tight tussle as both sides kicked two goals each. Our strong first term helped keep our winning ways on track!
Edward King, Herschel Waters, Wilson MacDonald, Adam Celik, Zak Bowes and Harrison Butterss were deemed best afield.
King booted 3 goals, while Will Mayhood had 2.
We sit 6th on the ladder with 4 wins.
MENS THIRDS (Round 8):
Collegians 37 defeated by Williamstown 120.
Our Thirds unfortunately went down to Williamstown in a tough loss away from home.
We were held to just three goals to half tome, but it was after the amin break that the home side really took off.
Williamstown piled on 13 goals to our 2, in a hard loss.
We will look to regroup and push again in a very competitive Division.
MENS UNDER 19s (Round 8):
SOME WORDS FROM COACH RICK.
Collegians 99 defeated Ormond 43.
The Under 19s faced a top of the table clash against second placed Ormond.
After a strong week on the track, the team put together their best performance for the season to continue their strong form and remain unbeaten with a comprehensive 56 point victory at E.E. Gunn Reserve.
Jack Driscoll was instrumental in the ruck while Eddie Gibb was influential in the midfield and played through a broken finger.
Jack Kilgour and Lukasz Payne both provided a constant threat and finished with 3 goals each.
With 11 goal kickers and contributions all over the ground, it was a true team performance.
The standard has now been set for this group in what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
We now sit one game clear on top of the ladder, with a stellar percentage of 291.10%.
WOMENS ROUND 7 RESULTS
One win on the board this weekend, going the way of our Women’s Thirds.
Coach Dom Lucarelli with the recap.
WOMENS SENIORS:
Collegians 8 defeated by Old Scotch 55.
Despite a quick start and a goal in the first few minutes, the Seniors ultimately went down by 47 points to the undefeated ladder leaders Scotch in an overall disappointing showing.
A mounting injury list created issues, but Scotch were just too fast and clean across the day and credit goes to them for playing some great football.
They kicked multiple goals in junk time which will be an area of focus for our players in the coming weeks.
Great defensive pressure from the skipper at the contest from Maegan Harrison and Tanisha Clark and Ash Bertagno held the team up, while Ellie George returned to good form and Eb Angelopoulous continued to provide some grit and flash.
Big thanks to Maddie Smith who played the first half of the Divisional game and then rushed across town to fill in for seniors after a late out.
We will re-load and go again this week.
WOMENS RESERVES:
Collegians 21 defeated by Old Scotch 61.
Another tough loss to good opposition. Low on numbers, a special thank you to skipper Maegan Harrison, Alex Hose, Amelie and Chloe Kamberis, Rebecca Rundle, Tanisha Clark and Lexie Moss who all played 2 games on the weekend so that we could field 3 teams.
Reserves co-coach Trish O’Neill also jumped in for a game to help as well. A great sign of the camaraderie that exists amongst all players of the program, regardless of what team they usually play in.
Bec Rundle dominated the ruck early and Amanda Connors was fantastic at roving through the stoppages.
Mili Ledgerwood was best on ground, dominating the halfback line in the first half with her intercept marking, and then moving to the ruck in the second half, and absolutely dominating in that position.
Junk time goals from Scotch in each quarter haunted us again, and will also be an area of focus over the coming weeks.
WOMENS THIRDS:
Collegians 30 defeated Old Melburnians 12.
An arm wrestle of a game with constantly shifting momentum.
Irish guns Lydia Rainey, Kim White and Kim Cobbe were dominant across the half back, spearheading great attacking passages of play.
Up forward, Annabel Schmidt kicked 3 for the day, while Giselle Lambley kicked 1 in her first game back from injury this season.
Maddie Smith, Charlie Pritchard and Aoibhinn Henderson were great in the middle, while Chloe Kamberis continued to make a very strong case for elevation to seniors this year.
Congratulations to the entire program on its first win in Division 1.
Our Third now sit second on the Division 1 ladder, with 20 points (5 wins) under their belt!
