Collegians History

• Collegians is 130 years old in 2022 and is the only surviving foundation member club of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).

• Collegians Men’s teams have won seventeen A Grade Premierships, four B Grade Premierships, six Under 19 Premierships and three Thirds Premierships.

• The Collegians Senior Men’s team has played in seven of the last ten final series, including six Grand finals.

• The Collegians Under 19 team has won two premierships in the last six years.

• In 2017 Collegians entered a Women’s team in the inaugural VAFA Women’s competition and field a Reserve Women’s team in 2018.  Both teams have represented the club in finals.

• Collegians have produced countless State Reps, Association Best & Fairest winners, All Australians, Leading Goal Kickers, and several AFL/VFL Players.

• Collegians regularly have players on Men’s and Women’s VFL lists.

• Collegians has historically been predominantly made up of past Wesley College students, but never exclusively just Wesley ex-students. The Club has had several Captains and Presidents who were not past students at Wesley College.

• Recently the club has formed some strong links to past students at St Michaels Grammar School and is now establishing a close connection with Albert Park College and the newly formed co-education school St Mary’s College.

• Collegians refers to a group of students who have graduated

Facilities / Infrastructure

Collegians’ ground (Harry Trott Oval) is located at Albert Park, opposite the Junction Oval and we have arguably the best community facility in Albert Park (oval, clubhouse & equipment) and have recently had a refurbishment of the change rooms.  The quality lights enable games to be played at night.

The Club provides excellent training facilities and equipment including weights, exercise bikes etc. to complement its arrangement with Wesley where our players are afforded year around access to the Prahran campus gymnasium & pool facilities. 

Our Medical staff is first class with physios and support staff in attendance at all sessions and games.  The Collegians network enables access to specialist doctors and surgeons should there be a serious injury. We pride ourselves on our medical support, believing player welfare is paramount. 

Financial

The Club is very well administered and is able to consistently improve facilities.  We are committed to providing whatever is necessary to ensure long-term success, both on and off the field.  

Collegians FC has excellent sponsors led by our Lion Sponsors - Jefferson Automotive Group, Simonds Homes, East Malvern Community Bank (Bendigo Bank), Mercedes Benz Waverley and Berwick, Bastion Collective, The Smith Hotel and College Lawn Hotel.

The Club also possess a very vibrant and well-connected Coterie Group who are extremely keen to be part of our ongoing success in the top Premier division.

We have a business plan in place that will ensure Collegians remains financial, competitive, and fun……… a great club, that people will be proud to be part of.

Training Commencement

Preseason training begins Wednesday 17 November and will continue each Monday and Wednesday at 6.30pm up until Christmas.

Training will be held at the Harry Trott oval in Albert Park.

Training will also be held at Wesley College Glen Waverley campus from Wednesday 1 December.

Year 12 students are encouraged to attend after exams. All new players will receive a training singlet.

Social

Our facilities ensure an outstanding environment for players, supporters, and parents.

Match day luncheons, after match gatherings, special functions and fundraisers throughout the year are all very successful and ensure Collegians will be a vibrant, healthy club.
